Manchester-based builders McGoff Construction is to become a “heart safe” business after buying a number of defibrillators for its workers.
The construction firm has bought defibrillators for its head office in Altrincham and its two largest construction sites – Downtown Manchester and HB Villages Northampton. It is also working with a local charity, Hand on Heart, to identify nearby schools, nurseries and community groups that could use help with getting their own defibrillators. Once identified, teams from McGoff will raise money to buy the schools and groups defibrillators of their own.
“As a company, we are committed to making a positive impact within the communities where we work, and what better way to do this than by donating lifesaving equipment to organisations who, without external support, would not be in a position to fund such vital items,” said sales and marketing manager, Sarah Sanderson.
“With the support of Hand on Heart our ultimate aim is to ensure that all of our construction sites across the UK operate as ‘heart safe’ environments for our employees, supply chain and site visitors and to support many local schools and community groups as we can along the way.”
Hand on Heart’s fundraising coordinator, Lesley Appleton, added: “McGoff are to be applauded for their new health and safety initiative to have defibrillators on all their sites, as well as training staff in CPR skills.
“We are delighted to be working with the staff and site teams at McGoff and are very excited about helping create heart safe construction sites, as well as supporting local communities to become aware of sudden cardiac arrest and to help schools receive lifesaving defibrillators and training that could one day help save a life.”
